NeuroVault - Update

What's New in Version 1.2.0 {Build 187}

This release now supports recording of all data produced by the Emotiv Epoc headset in sync with video and audio. The output data includes a CSV file which also records headset status frame by frame, this includes individual contact quality, battery level etc.

NOTE: Raw EEG requires a special headset / license and is not available from the standard consumer headset. If you have a developer / premium research license, please contact us regarding recording raw EEG.

Please note: Our decision to rewrite our Neuro applications as a fully modular set of inter-connecting utilities has been a major undertaking. Although we have not completed the project, we felt it was important to provide our NeuroVault users with an interim release which would incorporate many of the new features you have been waiting for.

This release consists of NeuroDetect, the interface to the neuro-headset and the original NeuroVault user interface. The final version will seamlessly tie the individual modules together and be a lot easier to use..

Please understand this interim release is a blend of the original version of NeuroVault with the new modular structure, it is not the final product. As a result, there is some overlap of functionality between the two modules, this will be fixed asap.

  New features in NeuroVault:

  • Automatically creates a CSV file with every recording.

  • Reords all Expressiv data.

  • Records all Cognitiv data.

  • Records all (correctly identified) contact quality data values.

  • Corrected problem with button 'hover' effect.

  • Simplified and more reliable headset connection process.

  New features in NeuroDetect module:

  • Graphical plot of Cognitiv events

  • Ability to define trigger thresholds for all headset detections.

  • Individual (non overlaid) Affectiv data plots.

  • Peak and average data plots for Affectiv data.

  • Graphical representation of headset contacts.

  • Variable intensity LEDs indicate current detection strength (power).

  • Graphic plot of contact quality helps you position headset.

  • Detailed logging of all triggered events.

  • Provides an audible beep when detections reach pre-defined threshold.

  • All plot charts feature a 10:1 time-scale adjustment.

Example shows a plot of the last three minutes Cognitiv detection history for the user's Push, Drop and Rotate Clockwise results.

Note the time-scale adjustment slider at the bottom, it can be adjusted from a 30 second to 300 second range.

Example shows the current status of each contact on your neuro-headset along with the international name for that particular contact location. Near the centre of the skull shape is an timer which displays the elapsed time since headset connection.

At the bottom, there are indicators for wireless signal strength, average contact quality and current battery charge level. .

NeuroDetect Status Display

The following image illustrates the NeuroDetect display panel. In one panel, you can see a complete picture of the current neuro-headset state. All information provided by the neuro-headset is represented including detection data and hardware state.

  • Affectiv data plot contains a trace for current as well as average levels and shows the peak value in the top right corner.

  • The LEDs for detection power increase in intensity in proportion to the power then turns red when the level reaches the preset trigger threshold.

  • NeuroDetect broadcasts triggered events to all Neuro applications on the same system or local network.

  • The NeuroDetect records all events to an event log.

PLEASE NOTE: Currently, NeuroVault does not fully take advantage of all the features offered by NeuroDetect. The next version of NeuroVault will enable you to define detection threshold trigger events which can be used to alter the operation of NeuroVault. For example, you can define a simple rule to enable recording only when you attain a certain meditation level. The result being a recording which only contains the data that you are interested in, if for example you were performing a relaxation study.

NeuroKey has also gone a major re-write and we have been working closely with a few individuals to enhance this product significantly. We a looking forward to making further announcements in due course.

Additional modules currently being evaluated:

NeuroIR Module

We are currently testing our custom IR interface with every standard remote control we can get our hands on. So far, it looks good, we have not found a remote the we cannot read or emulate! We expect to have small stocks manufactured by May 14th. Email us for pricing etc.

Our IR module (hardware and software) will allow you to turn on or off any device or control any appliance that supports an Infrared remote. Each Neuro utility can use the IR module differently. For example:

NeuroKey will use our IR module to learn the commands from your existing remote and then transmit those commands upon achieving a pre-defined mental state (detection). NeuroKey users will be able to change TV channels, control their VCR or other appliance.

NeuroTrain uses the IR module to control pre-recorded video to be presented to the user at various stages of the training sequence as well as allowing the user to interact with the training process using a hand-held remote. The subject does no longer needs to interact direct with the computer.

NeuroVault can 'listen' for commands from your remote and log those events into the NuroVault data as well as generating IR commands to control devices using neuro-triggers..

NeuroRelay Module

At the moment, we are working with a prototype relay driver to interface electrical and electronic equipment to our neuro apps. Due to widely differing regulations from country to country, we will almost certainly interface with existing home control devices for controlling mains voltage devices. However, we will probably manufacture a small quantity of our current prototype devices for users wishing to control low voltage (24V or less) devices which do not have a IR remote control.

The NeuroRelay and NeuroIR modules will operate the same (and be interchangeable) from a software perspective with regard to controlling external devices.

If you would like to know more about the new modular structure you might like to have a look at the following llink:

If you want to make the most of NeuroDetect today, we strongly encourage you to look at the demo video. NeuroDetect has many subtle features which wan help you achieve a lot more with your neuro-recordings. The demo video shows you some of the finer points which might not be apparent at first.
